Check the pressure gauge

Check the condensate pipe
On condensing Halstead models, the external condensate pipe can freeze in cold weather. Look for a white plastic pipe exiting through an outside wall. If frozen, pour warm water over it gently. Older non-condensing Halstead boilers do not have a condensate pipe.

Ignition lockout (flashing red light or E1)
Ignition faults are common on older Halstead boilers. The boiler tries to ignite but fails, triggering a lockout shown by a flashing red light or E1 code. Common causes include gas supply issues, a worn ignition electrode, or blocked burner. Try one reset. If it returns, call an engineer.
Low pressure (E4 or pressure gauge below 1 bar)

No heating or hot water but boiler fires

Low pressure faults often point to a failing expansion vessel. On older Halstead boilers, the expansion vessel diaphragm can perish, causing pressure drops. The pressure relief valve can also weep if the system has been overpressurised or if seals have degraded.
Diverter valve on combi boilers
The diverter valve directs hot water between your taps and radiators. When it wears or sticks, you may get heating but no hot water, or the reverse. Diverter valve issues are common on older Halstead combis.
PCB and electrical faults
The printed circuit board controls all boiler functions. On older Halstead boilers, PCB faults can occur. Symptoms include erratic displays, random lockouts, or complete failure to fire. PCB availability for older Halstead models can be limited.
