Tell us the fault code and model. We will advise the safest next step and check parts availability.
We also offer boiler servicing and boiler installation across London.
Smell gas? Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it is safe to do so. Open windows. Leave the property. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Do not use switches, and do not use naked flames.
CO alarm sounding? Open windows immediately. Leave the property. Call 999. Do not re-enter until cleared by emergency services.
Boiler leaking heavily? Turn off the boiler at the controls. If safe, turn off the water supply. Call an engineer.
Before calling an engineer, these safe checks may resolve simple issues with your Halstead boiler.
Check the gas supply
Is gas working at other appliances in your home? If not, check your meter and any prepayment credit.
Check the pressure gauge
Halstead boilers display pressure on a gauge. It should read between 1 and 1.5 bar when cold. If below 1 bar, you may need to re pressurise using the filling loop. On older Halstead models, the filling loop may be external to the boiler.
Check the thermostat
Is the room thermostat set above current room temperature? Are the batteries working?
Check the timer or programmer
Is the heating scheduled to be on? Check the clock is set correctly.
Try a single reset
Locate the reset button on your Halstead boiler. Press once and wait. If the fault returns, do not keep resetting. Call an engineer.
Check the condensate pipe
On condensing Halstead models, the external condensate pipe can freeze in cold weather. Look for a white plastic pipe exiting through an outside wall. If frozen, pour warm water over it gently. Older non-condensing Halstead boilers do not have a condensate pipe.
Halstead boilers are no longer manufactured. Fault code formats vary by model – many older units use indicator lights rather than digital codes. Tell us exactly what you see and we will advise.
| Code/Indication | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Flashing red light | Ignition lockout. Boiler failed to ignite. | Check gas supply. Reset once only. If it returns, call an engineer. |
| E1 | Ignition failure (models with digital display). | Check gas supply. Reset once. If it returns, call an engineer. |
| E4 | Low water pressure. | Check gauge and re pressurise if confident. If it drops again, call an engineer. |
| No lights | No power to boiler or PCB fault. | Check power supply and fuse. Call an engineer. |
Code not listed? Halstead codes and indicators vary by model. Tell us exactly what you see and we will advise the safest next step.
Ignition faults are common on older Halstead boilers. The boiler tries to ignite but fails, triggering a lockout shown by a flashing red light or E1 code. Common causes include gas supply issues, a worn ignition electrode, or blocked burner. Try one reset. If it returns, call an engineer.
Low pressure is common on older Halstead installations. If you top up and pressure falls again within days, there may be a leak in the system or a failing expansion vessel. The pressure relief valve can also weep on older boilers. Do not keep topping up. Call an engineer to find the cause.
On Halstead combi boilers, you may get heating but no hot water, or the reverse. This often points to a diverter valve issue. On older Halstead models, the diverter valve motor or cartridge can fail. If the boiler fires but does not deliver heat or hot water as expected, call an engineer for diagnosis.
Halstead boilers are no longer manufactured, so all Halstead installations are now older units. Here is what we commonly see.
Ignition faults are common on older Halstead boilers. The ignition electrode creates the spark, and over time it wears or becomes coated with carbon. The burner can also become blocked with debris.
Low pressure faults often point to a failing expansion vessel. On older Halstead boilers, the expansion vessel diaphragm can perish, causing pressure drops. The pressure relief valve can also weep if the system has been overpressurised or if seals have degraded.
The diverter valve directs hot water between your taps and radiators. When it wears or sticks, you may get heating but no hot water, or the reverse. Diverter valve issues are common on older Halstead combis.
The printed circuit board controls all boiler functions. On older Halstead boilers, PCB faults can occur. Symptoms include erratic displays, random lockouts, or complete failure to fire. PCB availability for older Halstead models can be limited.
We repair Halstead combi, system, and regular boilers where parts are available. Halstead is no longer manufactured, so all models are now older units.
Parts availability is limited on Halstead boilers. We check availability before attending and will advise honestly if repair is not viable. In some cases, replacement may be the only practical option.
We help you decide based on age, reliability, and parts availability. As Halstead boilers are discontinued, the repair vs replace decision often comes down to parts availability.
Our engineers give honest assessments. If we cannot source parts or the repair is not cost effective, we will tell you.
Annual servicing can extend the life of an older Halstead boiler. See Boiler servicing London.
We provide boiler repairs and gas safety certification for landlords across London. See Landlord gas safety certificate (CP12).

Yes, where parts are available. Halstead is no longer manufactured, so parts availability is limited. We check before attending and will advise honestly if repair is not viable.
We offer same day attendance where slots are available. For no heating or hot water, we prioritise urgent breakdowns. Call our 24/7 line and we will advise availability.
A single reset is generally safe. If the fault returns after resetting, stop and call an engineer. Do not reset more than twice in 24 hours.
If your Halstead boiler is over 15 years old or parts are unavailable, replacement is often the most practical option. Our engineers can advise on replacement options during a visit.
