Older Malvern boiler? We can assess whether a safe repair is sensible or whether replacement is better value.

We cover Malvern boiler repairs in London, including lockouts, no heating, no hot water, low pressure and ignition faults. Some older Malvern boilers can be repaired, but parts availability can vary by model and age. We will advise the safest, most cost-effective next step after inspection.

Quick Navigation

Safety First

Smell gas? Turn off the gas supply at the meter if it is safe to do so. Open windows. Leave the property. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. Do not use switches, and do not use naked flames.

CO alarm sounding? Open windows immediately. Leave the property. Call 999. Do not re-enter until cleared by emergency services.

Boiler leaking heavily? Turn off the boiler at the controls. If safe, turn off the water supply. Call an engineer.

Repair or Replace

Malvern boilers were manufactured in the UK and sold during the 1990s and early 2000s. The brand is no longer active, and most Malvern boilers still in service are now 20 to 30 years old. Whether to repair or replace depends on the fault, the model, and parts availability.

When repair may be sensible:

  • Minor component failure where standard parts can be sourced
  • First breakdown after years of reliable service
  • Boiler is in otherwise good condition

When replacement is often better value:

  • Repeat breakdowns or multiple faults
  • Major component failure (heat exchanger, PCB, gas valve)
  • Parts are obsolete or cannot be sourced
  • Boiler is over 25 years old
  • Repair cost approaches a significant share of a replacement quote

We will advise honestly after inspection. There is no pressure to replace if a repair is practical.

Quick Checks Before You Call

Before calling an engineer, these safe checks may resolve simple issues.

Check the gas supply
Is gas working at other appliances in your home? If not, check your meter and any prepayment credit.

Check the pressure gauge
On sealed system models, pressure should read around 1.0 to 1.5 bar when cold. If low, top up via the filling loop.

Check the thermostat and timer
Is the room thermostat set above current temperature? Is the heating scheduled to be on?

Check the pilot light
On older Malvern models with a permanent pilot, look through the inspection window. If the pilot is out, follow the lighting instructions on the boiler. If it will not stay lit, call an engineer.

Try a reset
If the boiler has locked out, turn the thermostat to minimum, wait 30 seconds, then turn back up. If it locks out again, call an engineer.

Common Malvern Boiler Faults

Most Malvern boilers do not have digital fault code displays. They use indicator lights and lockout conditions. Common symptoms include:

Ignition lockout
Boiler fails to light. May be thermocouple, ignition electrode, gas valve, or pilot assembly fault. Try one reset. If it returns, call an engineer.

Flame failure
Boiler ignites but flame is lost during operation. May be blocked flue, faulty flame sensing, or gas supply issue.

Overheat lockout
Boiler overheated and shut down. May be circulation fault, pump failure, or blocked heat exchanger. Do not keep resetting. Call an engineer.

Low pressure
Pressure dropping repeatedly may indicate a leak in the system. An engineer can pressure test to find the source.

No hot water / heating works
On combi models, may be a diverter valve fault. On system boilers, check the cylinder thermostat and motorised valves.

Malvern Models We Cover

Our engineers work on Malvern gas boilers including:

Wall mounted: Malvern combi and system models
Floor standing: Older Malvern floor standing boilers
Back boilers: Malvern back boiler units

Malvern boilers are no longer manufactured. Parts availability is limited and some components may be obsolete. We can often source standard parts or compatible alternatives, but major component failures may make replacement more practical.

Replacement Options

If your Malvern boiler is 20 to 25 years old or parts cannot be sourced, a replacement survey is often the fastest route to certainty.

Combi vs system boiler
We survey your property to recommend the right type, output, and controls for your needs.

Survey and sizing
We measure your property and assess your hot water demand to recommend the right boiler. No high-pressure sales.

Modern efficiency
Replacing an older Malvern with a new condensing boiler could reduce your gas bills by 25 to 35 percent.

System protection
We recommend a powerflush when fitting a new boiler to remove sludge and protect the new unit.
