Power flush London

Cold spots along the bottom of your radiators, a boiler that rumbles, or rooms that take a long time to warm up usually point to sludge in the system rather than a fault with the boiler.
A power flush clears it. We check the system first, tell you whether flushing is actually the right answer, and agree the rate before any work starts.

Two details to start. Tell us how many radiators you have and we will talk you through what is involved.
Sludge builds up as iron oxide inside radiators and pipework. These are the symptoms it produces:
Six stages, from checking the system to protecting it afterwards.
Pressure, flow and return temperatures, and a radiator by radiator survey. Not every cold radiator needs a flush, and we will say so if it does not.
A flushing pump goes on to the circuit, with a magnetic filter to capture what comes out.
A cleaning chemical is added and circulated to lift the deposits off the inside of the radiators and pipework.
Radiators are worked on individually and the flow reversed, which shifts material that normal circulation leaves behind.
Rinsing continues until the water coming out is clean, not just less dirty.
A corrosion inhibitor goes in to protect the clean system, then the pressure is set and the radiators balanced.
Call with the number of radiators and what you are seeing. We will tell you what is likely involved before anyone attends.
Three different jobs that often get confused with each other.
| Power flush | Chemical flush | Magnetic filter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it does | Pumps cleaner through the system at high flow and reverses it, radiator by radiator | Circulates cleaner using the system’s own pump, then drains it | Catches iron oxide as it circulates, so it never settles |
| Best for | Systems with real sludge build-up and cold radiators | Light contamination, or before fitting a new boiler | Keeping a clean system clean |
| Time on site | Usually most of a day | An hour or two | Under an hour |
| Ongoing benefit | Restores circulation, but needs inhibitor to stay clean | Limited on a heavily sludged system | Emptied at each service, protects the boiler long term |
It is worth saying plainly, because it is often sold when it will not help.
The rate depends on the system, so it is agreed after we have seen it and before any work begins.
Most domestic systems take the better part of a day. A small flat with a handful of radiators can be quicker; a larger house with many radiators, or a system in poor condition, can take longer. We will give you a realistic time when we have seen the system.
It will if the cause is sludge. If a single radiator is cold and the rest are fine, the cause is more often a stuck thermostatic valve or trapped air, and a flush would be the wrong answer. We diagnose first and tell you which it is.
The rate depends on the number of radiators and the condition of the system, so it is agreed after we have seen it and before any work begins. Call 0203 868 6251 with the number of radiators and the boiler make and we can talk you through what is involved.
On a sound system, no. On very old steel radiators or corroded pipework, clearing heavy deposits can occasionally reveal a weak point that the sludge was effectively plugging. We check the condition of the system first and tell you if that is a risk before starting, rather than after.
A magnetic filter catches the iron oxide that builds up after the flush, so the system stays clean for longer. It is not compulsory, and we will explain what it does rather than simply adding it to the bill.
A well protected system with a working inhibitor and a filter may never need another one. Flushing is a repair for a specific problem, not routine maintenance, so we would rather fix the cause than put you on a cycle.

Booked them in for a power flush after ongoing heating issues. The engineer was very thorough and explained what was being done at each stage. We noticed a huge difference in how quickly the radiators now heat up.
